Facial-Recognition Technology Cannot Read Emotions, Scientists Say

Aleix Martinez, Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett, and Dr. Seth Pollak say you should be wary of claims that artificial intelligence can accurately interpret a human’s facial expression.  “It looks like we actually don’t need to be born with this knowledge. Human brains are actually able to figure out patterns and make inferences about what might be happening at a very, very sophisticated computational level with actually very little experience,” said Pollak.  Can AI programs match the sophisticated ability to recognize facial patterns to that of a human?  Read more from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
